Author Life Updates 2023 & 2024

Life update: 2023 was the year of hitting the outdoors more and going on more road trips and adventures in general. I’m still baking, but I’ve enjoyed spending more time outside and in nature.

Author Life in 2023

I’ve been working on this post for monthssssss and instead of trying to compile the notes and thoughts and feelings I had about my career in 2023, I decided to cut those 2,000 or so words and go with this:

My author career in 2023 was beyond a dream and included over 20 published pieces, an MFA acceptance, two award nominations, and finding myself listed on some Hugo recommended lists as both a writer and editor.

I know I usually go into much more depth than this, but life has been really wild over the last few months. 2024 is building off the success of 2023 and seeing me publishing less but learning more, focusing on my skills and techniques instead of making sure I always have a piece scheduled for publishing.

I’ll try and be better at keeping this blog updated, but my focus has definitely shifted to publishing in my author newsletter more than on here. I miss my monthly updates as ways of looking back on where I was, what I worked on, and how I’m moving into the future.

But with grad school starting soon, novel drafting coming up, and in general, life being life, monthly posts aren’t at the top of my priority list. I still plan on sharing posts here, but on a much less frequent schedule than I was.

Don’t think of this as a goodbye, but a slow down—a breather.

I’ve also been getting into taking more pictures. Here’s what 2024 has looked like through my eyes:

Even though I’m slowing down publication on this blog, you can still use it as a way to stay up to date on what I’m publishing, working on, and going in my author career.
