This September on the 13th, I’ll be teaching my Crafting Atmosphere class through Clarion West.
“Make readers feel your story by crafting its atmosphere in a multilayered way, from the sentence structure and word choice to the micro tension of your piece. In this 90-minute class, you’ll learn what contributes to a story’s atmosphere by analyzing published short stories and craft different levels of atmosphere using exercises and prompts.”
November Classes and Workshop
This November, I’ll be doing two classes hosted by me on Crafting Dialogue and an Advanced Writing Workshop. The dialogue class is all about writing dialogue that reads and sounds true to character and story. There will be exercises for writers to use on their own characters.
The fiction workshop is a small group workshop where 5 writers bring their work to be critiqued by me and others to better their stories. There is a Q+A section at the end of the workshop if there is time where authors can ask me questions about writing, editing, publishing, and more.
December Classes and Workshops
In December, I’ll be doing two more classes, What is a Scene & How to Write One and another Advanced Writing Workshop. Come learn how to write and build scenes to make your story flow seamlessly from page to page.
The fiction workshop is the same as it was in November.
January Classes and Workshops
January will have just one class that will another Advanced Writing Workshop class with 5 writers working through their pieces together. The fiction workshop call is the same as previous months and focuses on live critique of stories to help writers get valuable feedback on their stories.
February Classes and Workshops
For the first time in February 2027, I’ll be running a Short Story Intensive. Come in with a story idea and leave with a completed short story that you get editorial feedback on and guidance along the way. We’ll meet virtually each week to review and critique the work of the group as well as getting a short lecture in specific storytelling elements like tension, dialogue, and more. At the end of the month, students will submit their completed stories for developmental review and feedback.
